hashtag advocates a repeal of the 19th Amendment

A #RepealThe19th hashtag appeared on Twitter after FiveThirtyEight’s editor-in-chief Nate Silver tweeted a map based on a poll showing that Trump would win if only men voted in the 2016 election. The hashtag advocates a repeal of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.

  1. Yet these same “men” granted them the right to vote.

    • To Propose Amendments

In the U.S. Congress, both the House of Representatives and the Senate approve by a two-thirds supermajority vote, a joint resolution amending the Constitution. Amendments so approved do not require the signature of the President of the United States and are sent directly to the states for ratification.
Two-thirds of the state legislatures ask Congress to call a national convention to propose amendments. (This method has never been used.)
      To Ratify Amendments

Three-fourths of the state legislatures approve it, or
Ratifying conventions in three-fourths of the states approve it. This method has been used only once — to ratify the 21st Amendment — repealing Prohibition.
The Supreme Court has stated that ratification must be within “some reasonable time after the proposal.” Beginning with the 18th Amendment granting women the right to vote, it has been customary for Congress to set a definite period for ratification.

The citizenry play no role unless appointed to a national convention.

      • Who elected that legislative body Joe?

      • Rich, that’s true to a point, the fact remains it was done by a political body whose decision it was to make inspite of the voters.
Now if it was part of the platform they were elected under then I would agree, but it wasn’t.
Contrast that to JFK elected with his own injection into that party platform the elimination of national origins act.
Womens suffrage gained steam out west due to financial distress of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act leading to the rise of populist parties seeking growth with women activists and eventually votes.
Nineteenth Amendment was political fallout from WWI, purely political backroom like what we see today with RNC and DNC against Trump.
Once they let every idiot (male) vote it was only a matter of time.
One day if we survive to that one day, this every man a vote crap MUST END.

      • I would institute a check list and litmus test that would involve the following…

        Change the age to 21
        Literacy Test
        US History / Civics Test
Tax deductible poll tax of 5 bucks
If you don’t pay taxes, own property, or work YOU DO NOT VOTE!
