According to the NSPL… a record number of anguished calls have flooded suicide prevention hotlines just before and after Donald Trump secured his presidential victory.
Calls are still coming in droves!
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline alone received approximately 660 calls between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Wednesday!!!
The hotline often receives an uptick in calls during major events like natural disasters or even elections. But the NSPL said the previous presidential contests produced nowhere near the levels seen this week.
An onslaught of calls also overwhelmed the staff at the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention network for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth.
By Wednesday evening, its hotline had received the most daily calls in its 18-year history.
“I don’t believe there’s ever been a time in this country’s recent history when there’s been so much hatred and bullying talk leading up to the election,” said spokesman Steve Mendelsohn.
“It just makes sense that people would be concerned, especially LGBT youth who are naturally concerned about who they are.”
